league Rules and regulation

All players must provide their own reversible jerseys for each game.

Minimum of 3 players per team and a maximum of 6 players. Roster must be completed by week two of the league. Adding additional players to the roster after week two is prohibited.

Games

One game (each week) consists of a best of 3 games to 21 points (straight) or 20 minutes, whichever comes first. There will be a 3-minute break between each game. The third game (tiebreaker game) will be played to 15 points (straight) or 10 minutes whichever comes first. It will be a running clock (unless 2 minutes- see 2 minute and under rule).

All teams are guaranteed 8 games (including playoffs, runs 8 weeks) with top teams (based on record) making it to the playoff/championship week. Champions will receive one House of Hoops merchandise. T-shirt, hat, etc.

possesion

The ball will alternate possession on every made basket but is live and must be cleared with both feet beyond the 3 point line on every missed basket if the defense gets the rebound. The ball will be checked at the top with the opposing team to start each new possession.

It must be passed to a teammate for play to begin. Clock will start once the teammate at the top passes it in (inbounds the ball).

FOULS

Each player is allowed 5 fouls over the course of the first 2-20 minute games. If it goes to game three, it is 6 across the three games (3rd game of 10 minutes). In essences, you get one extra foul if going into the tie-breaker game. If/when a player receives his or her 5th foul (in the first two) he/she must be subbed out of the game and can not be subbed back in. If the team does not have 3 players eligible to play, the opposing team can choose which of the fouled out players (if multiple) they would like to stay in the game in order for it to continue. Every time the player with 5 fouls whom was selected, fouls, it will be a technical shot - even if it is on the ground. The team that was fouled will then get the ball as well. If the player whom is fouled out fouls on a shot, it is one free throw (or two if it is a three pointer) and receives the ball.

If you are fouled on a shot and the shot goes in, you get to shoot a free throw. Then it changes possesion. If you get fouled on a shot and you miss, you will be awarded one free throw if fouled inside the 3 point line and 2 shots if fouled outside the 3 point line.

If the game is at 2 minutes or less and is within 6 points, then on the third foul within the 2 minute mark, the team fouled will shoot one free throw (clock stopped) and possession will change.

BOOK/SCOREKEEPER

A House of Hoops employee will be the designated score/bookkeeper for each game. He/she is responsible for keeping track of fouls (per player) and points as well as the clock.

If there are any questions regarding player fouls you may ask the bookkeeper during the game.

We ask that you are respectful and do not argue or dispute with the bookkeeper as he/she is held accountable by the referee who he/she will work alongside throughout the entirety of each game. Arguments with the bookkeeper may result in a technical by the referee.

Timeouts

Each team is allowed one timeout per game (one in each out of the three). Timeouts are one minute. Timeouts do not carry over to the next game if not used.

point system

The Point system is by 1's and 2's. Inside the 3 point line is worth 1 point and outside the 3 point line is worth 2 points. If you are fouled on a shot and the shot goes in there is no free throw awarded. If you get fouled on a shot and you miss you will be awarded one free throw if fouled inside the 3 point line and 2 shots if fouled outside the 3 point line.

referee/calls

All games will have one official referee who will make all the calls. The calls are final and cannot be disputed. If an argument with the referee ensues you will automatically forfeit that game as a team. If another argument with the referee ensues on the same night you will forfeit all games that night and your team will receive a warning. If another argument occurs anytime during that season you will forfeit all games and will not receive any league fees back.

The referee will call what he sees to the best of his ability as in a normal basketball full court game. Meaning travels, double dribble, out of bounds, fouls, etc… will be called.

NO SHOWS AND LATE REGULATIONS

If a team does not show for their game it is counted as a forfeit (loss) and the team who arrived will be awarded the win. If a team (need at least three players for game to start) is more than 10 minutes late and has not yet arrived it will be counted as a forfeit and the team who arrived will be awarded the win. The team who forfeit for any reason, is responsible for paying the ref fees for themselves and for the team they were scheduled to play.

UNDER 2 MINUTES

If the game is at 2 minutes or less, and within 6 points, then the clock will become a stopped clock at every dead ball i.e. fouls, out of bounds, etc.. On change of possession after a point is made the clock will not be stopped.

TECHNICAL FOULS

Technical fouls may be given by the ref for several reasons. This could be misconduct as in any other regular full court basketball game or if arguing occurs.

Techs will also be given if there is a delay of game and the opposing team will be awarded one technical shot if a team is late or delays the game from starting on time. Technical fouls will also be given if by the second week of the league, a team does not have reversibles. Every game a team does not have reversibles, they will be given a tech and at the start of the game the opposing team will be allowed a technical shot.

What if we tie?

If two teams tie (the clock runs out and no one has scored 21), two minutes will be added to the clock. It will then be whoever scores 21 first or has the most points once the two minutes runs out.

Jump ball to determine possession in overtime (shoot for ball just like start of game).

Please note that overtime timeouts are only given on the third game (tiebreaker), if it goes into overtime.

There will be absolutely no fighting, trash-talking, or cursing. Fighting will result in an automatic ejection from the gym and that player will not be allowed to return for the season. Trash talking or cursing will result in a warning on the first offense, ejection from that night's games on the second offense, and on the 3rd offense anytime during the season that player will be ejected from the gym and will not be allowed to play the rest of the season.
